Alleged Gunman Wanted to Prove Gun was Real

The High Court jury has heard that accused gunman Anitilea Chan Kee shot South Auckland liquor store owner Navtej Singh to prove the gun he was holding wasn't fake.

Crown witness Rachel Pulepule told the jury she overheard Chan Kee say the reason he shot Mr Singh was the "other guy in there said it was a fake gun".

Chan Kee is one of six men on trial for murdering Mr Singh, who was shot in his Manurewa liquor store on June 8, 2008.

Myron Felise and Jason Naseri allegedly followed Chan Kee into the store and stole alcohol and cigarettes while Tino Faamele Felise waited in a car.

Two others - Eti Filoa and Walter McCarthy - acted as lookouts.

All six have been charged with murder.
