The Auckland City Council has achieved a 100 percent registration rate for all of the city's known dogs.
Manager of Service Requests Chris Horan says the council regards the record as a success because it takes the safety of its residents and their pets very seriously.
Mr Horan says there are a number of benefits to having all of the city's dogs registered.
"We gets less attacks, it means that when we find dogs that are lost we're able to reunite them with their dog owners and we're able to provide people with advice about what to do with their dogs and where to go," he says.
All of the city's 20,000 plus known dogs are now registered, a record the Auckland City Council feels very proud of.
Manager of Service requests Chris Horan says more dog registrations lead to less attacks, more reunions with owners and lost pets and more compliance.
Mr says the council has made the issue of registration for the city's 20,000 known dogs a priority.
"We're very proud of the fact that we're able to reach 100 percent of all registered dogs.
"It's something that we really focus on every year and we do make sure that everybody complies with their obligations as a dog owner."
