A teenage couple who were bashed nearly to death in a mystery attack in a West Auckland park last weekend can't recall anything about what happened.
Police say the injuries the pair suffered could easily have killed them and that neither the 19-year-old man or his 17-year-old girlfriend can recall details of the attack.
Detective Sergeant Roger Small says that is a common feature in serious physical assaults and is the body's way of protecting itself from the emotional trauma.
The couple have now been transferred out of hospital intensive care wards and into medical wards.
