A number of stabbings in South Auckland have prompted an Auckland High Court Judge to call for a review of laws surrounding knife possession.
The latest attack saw a man allegedly stab his 25-year-old stepson in the neck over the weekend.
Justice Raynor Asher suggests it might be time for Parliament to make it an offence to carry a knife without reasonable excuse.
There is plenty of community support for a review of laws surrounding knife possession.
Manukau City councillor Alf Filipaina says there's no reason to carry knives on the streets. He says that people feel the need to carry knives, because they know other people are also armed.
"This is when we get into real trouble,' Mr Filipaina says. "This is where people end up getting injured or killed."
