Rodney Mayor Backing Northern Action Group

Rodney Mayor Penny Webster has put her weight behind the Northern Action Group as they prepare to take their anti supercity petition to Parliament tomorrow.

Mrs Webster says the passionate group attended a meeting held by Rodney MP Lockwood Smith a few months ago and weren't happy with the decision to include the whole of Rodney in the supercity.

"They were very concerned about it so they had a meeting with Rodney Hide and he suggested they put together the petition and they've got 6000 signatures."

Mrs Webster hopes the petition will be greeted with open ears at Parliament by Lockwood Smith and Northland MP John Carter.

"I'd like to think that at least they were listened to because they're really quite passionate," she says.

"People up here are feeling that they haven't been given the right information, that they didn't have a chance to debate it, that it's been sort of bulldozed through."
