The Blues look set to lure Crusaders first-five Stephen Brett and Hurricanes halfback Alby Mathewson to Auckland for next year's Super 14 competition.
Halfback and first-five have been identified as areas of weakness in Pat Lam's team and the Herald on Sunday is reporting that both Brett and Mathewson are keen to move north in search of more playing time.
The Blues have been searching for a star number 10 for some time, but have been turned down by Jonny Wilkinson, Juan Martin Hernandez, Dan Carter, Aaron Cruden and most recently Mike Delany.
Halfbacks Piri Weepu and Jimmy Cowan have also turned down chances to move north.
